Christmas Eve was spent as a family, a rare occasion given the last five months all of us have been separated due to Charly's hospitalization. For the first time...John and I were sandwiched in bed (in between Charly in her bassinet, and Jaxon climbing into our bed early in the morning). It was WONDERFUL. John had a day off...the first day off in almost 26 days straight, and we relished every moment together as a family!
John mentioned to me Christmas Eve...that he wondered how Joseph and Mary felt when the wise-men, and others brought gifts on behalf of their son, the baby Jesus. They must have felt wonderful, amazing, overwhelmed, and joyous. We can't speak for Mary or Joseph on exactly how they felt, or what they experienced, but we have been feeling a small connection with them this year. How you ask? Well, we also have a new baby at home during Christmas. We have been so overwhelmingly blessed with gifts for Christmas, random acts of kindness, and wonderful blessings from so many of you! It has been truly humbling, amazing, and has taught us so much about the spirit of Christmas. It has also been a constant reminder about what the true meaning of Christmas is...and how the Savior's example is alive and well - being carried out each day.
We usually have a tradition where we take our family to see the lights at temple square (picture from 2010). President Thomas S. Monson said, "Temple Square in Salt Lake City is known throughout the world. It is particularly attractive at Christmastime, with its thousands of twinkling lights, traditional nativity scene, carolers singing those songs so dear to us all, and, of course, the lighted statue of the Christus, which seems to say to the world, “The spirit of Christmas is indeed the Christ spirit.” I missed being at Temple square, but I was able to feel the Spirit of Christmas at home this year!
My favorite part has always been the Nativity, and the narration of the Christmas Story. Although we didn't have a chance to attend this year...the Christmas story has become a more important part of our lives because we have been blessed by so many Christ-like people.
Christmas morning was beautiful! Jaxon slept in the living room in an attempt to "catch" Santa.
He claims that he heard the "Polar Express" but he was just too tired from staying up past midnight to catch it! Jaxon made sure that Santa was well taken care of Christmas Eve night...and even left him a $2 tip (lol, which he did not take...I might add).
Jaxon got the Spiderman costume he asked Santa for...and was a super happy kid all day long.
It's nice to have a superhero around the house when I need one...especially when I need a little hand helping Charly.
We are so grateful for all of the wonderful gifts we received from our friends and family. We owe so many of you a very special "THANK YOU". We are above all grateful for our loving Savior, who's birth we celebrated. I am so thankful for his example, his love for me, the power of miracles through him, and especially for the atonement. I hope we can all remember that the Savior is the light unto all...a Christmas gift for each of us.
Merry Christmas to all...and to all a goodnight!
